H.R.H. Princess Mathilde meets Young People

Istanbul, 16 October 2012- H.R.H. Princess Mathilde of Belgium today visited the International Youth Leadership Academy where UNICEF is empowering young people to be the leaders of future in collaboration with Habitat Center for Development and Governance.

H.R.H. Princess Mathilde highlighted the importance of investing in youth for creating equal opportunities for children and young people all around the world. She said that she is supportive of young people following a leadership training course to improve their social skills and knowledge about global issues. She welcomed the young people's motto: "Not only leaders of tomorrow, partners of today".


Inaugural Forum of the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities

Inaugural Forum of the Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities at UNICEF House, September 14-15, 2012 took place with more than 240 participants from over 100 organizations, the event was a resounding success. The partners came up with concrete actions which they will take forward over the coming year, with the plan to report on progress at the time of the High Level Meeting on Disability. Turkey was one of the participants of the 8 countries. Mrs. Aylin Ciftci , General Director For Disabled Persons and the Elderly , Ministry of Family and Social Policies made a presentation and called for action for the Conference in Ankara, on 3 December 2012 on " Bring Down Barriers In Addressing Childhood Disability"


UNICEF focuses on ending child marriage on the International Day of the Girl Child

"My Life, My Right, End Child Marriage" NEW YORK, 11 October 2012 - On the first International Day of the Girl Child, UNICEF and partners are highlighting joint efforts to end child marriage - a fundamental human rights violation that impacts all aspects of a girl's life. "The International Day of the Girl Child readily reflects the need to put girls rights at the centre of development," said Anju Malhotra with the Gender and Rights Section in UNICEF, "The UN and partners are coming together to show the incredible progress made and to highlight the ongoing challenges."
