Seyda's London Olympic Torch Relay Journal

Seydanur Kabasakal, a 16 year old high school student from Ankara was chosen to participate the Olympic Torch Relay by the International Inspiration Project. Seyda and her chaperone, -social worker Nalan Uysal- travelled to the UK in June 24-30, 2012 and became a part of the Olympic history. Turkish Grand National Assembly Child Rights Monitoring Committee's New Members and UNICEF came together at the Parliament

In 2008, TGNA and UNICEF established the Child Rights Monitoring Committee and in 2009, the Committee's website was launched which gave children and young people a chance to share their ideas and requests with parliamentarians.

Children are learning their rights with a Game: Children Have the Word

Habitat Center for Development and Governance and Bilgi University Child Rights Unit are organizing a joint training programme, Children Have the Word: A Child Rights Game between 15-19 July 2012 in Istanbul. The gola of the programme is to increase the awareness of children aged between 11-15 about child rights.

Child Survival - Call to Action: Global Leaders to Chart Course towards the End of Preventable Child Deaths

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The governments of the United States, India and Ethiopia will in collaboration with UNICEF convene the Child Survival: Call to Action in Washington D.C. 14-15 June 2012. The Call to Action brings together 700 leaders and global experts to launch a long-term effort to save children's lives. Out of this event a new initiative will be launched - Committing to Child Survival: A Promise Renewed, which is led by UNICEF and is dedicated to renewing the world's commitment to end preventable child deaths.

UNICEF and the Flour Fortification Initiative Support Improving Iron Status through Flour Fortification

UNICEF and the the Flour Fortification Initiative will be organizing a workshop in Ankara between 12-15 June 2012 to raise awareness about micronutrient (vitamin and minerals) deficiencies and interventions to address them, specifically food fortification, share experiences of the impact of fortification programs and gain support for fortification efforts.

SITUATION OF CHILDREN'S RIGHTS IN TURKEY UNDER REVIEW

Turkey's efforts to promote and protect children's rights will be reviewed by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva on 1st June. Minister for the Family and Social Policies Fatma Şahin is expected to head a large Turkish delegation in Geneva. The session will be held in public in the form of an interactive dialogue. It will also be attended by UNICEF officials and by civil society organisations.
