UNICEF deploys its largest emergency supply operation ever in a single month

Record amount of emergency aid delivered to children caught in record number of crises

COPENHAGEN/GENEVA/NEW YORK, 26 August 2014– This August UNICEF shipped 1,000 metric tonnes of life-saving supplies for children caught in the world’s most urgent crises -- the largest emergency supply operation in the organization’s history in a single month. The amount delivered would fill 19 cargo jumbo jets.

UNICEF airlifts 68 tonnes of supplies to Liberia, ramping up Ebola response

MONROVIA, Liberia, 23 August 2014 –A cargo plane carrying 68 metric tonnes of health and hygiene supplies from UNICEF landed in Monrovia early Saturday morning, bringing urgently needed supplies to combat the worst Ebola outbreak in global history.

Statement on World Humanitarian Day 

NEW YORK, 19 August 2014 – “The nature of humanitarian work is often dangerous.  Aid workers endure harsh conditions and risk harm to save lives, rebuild communities, and bear witness in conflicts, catastrophes, and crises. 

“These emergencies have increased in both frequency and complexity.  So, too, has the risk to humanitarian workers – and the death toll among them has risen accordingly.


UNICEF scaling up support and protection to children in Gaza amid fragile cease-fire

GAZA, 16 August 2014 – A pause in fighting has helped UNICEF bring life-saving assistance to children in Gaza, but a sustained peace is needed to reach hundreds of thousands more children who desperately need support to rebuild their lives.

UNICEF Steps up Humanitarian Response in Northern Iraq

ERBIL, Iraq 12 August, 2014 – As the humanitarian crisis continues to unfold in Iraq, UNICEF and other humanitarian actors are stepping up efforts to meet the urgent needs of up to 30,000 members of the ethnic Yazidi minority who are being extracted from Sinjar Mountain, in addition to helping meet the needs of a further 12,000 displaced Christians who are now sheltering in the Kurdish capital, Erbil.
