DENGE Juvenile Probation Programme Brochure

The overall objective of the Development of an Effective Risk Evaluation System for Children in Turkish Probation Services Project, shortly referred as DENGE Juvenile Probation Programme which is co-funded by the European Union, the Government of Turkey and UNICEF and implemented by the Ministry of Justice Directorate General for Prisons and Detention Houses Probation Department with technical support of UNICEF is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the juvenile justice system in Turkey through the development of a more effective, preventive and rehabilitative probation system, and to develop risks and needs assessment tools along with improved supportive services for children which are effective, measurable and complying with EU standards for reintegration of juveniles under probation in Turkey. Final beneficiaries of the project would be the children in contact with the justice system and their families.

Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Judges, Handbook for Trainers/ 2014

This book provides guidance for the trainers of “Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Judges”. The training programme has been developed based on the diversified levelled roles of the judges and the courts. The aim of the training programme is to strengthen the capacity of candidate judges to notice the best interest of the child, and to strengthen their knowledge on juvenile justice specific foreseen rules. Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Prosecutors, Handbook for Trainers/ 2014

This book provides guidance for the trainers of “Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Prosecutors”. The training programme has been developed by focusing on the different roles of prosecutors during prosecution and trial periods. The aim of the training programme is to strengthen the capacity of candidate prosecutors to notice the best interest of the child, and to strengthen their knowledge on juvenile justice specific foreseen rules. Juvenile Justice System Training Book for Candidate Judges and Prosecutors/ 2014

This book has been prepared as a guidebook for judges and prosecutors whom will work with children. The book covers the main regulations for children coming in contact with the justice system. Also, the book includes the main principles and approaches on inter-sectorial collaboration and protection of best interest of the child in the juvenile justice system. (Only available in Turkish).

Report on the Role of Social Work in Juvenile Justice

With a special focus on the CEE/CIS region, this guidebook provides a brief insight on the key roles of social work and social workers within the different levels of the juvenile justice system such as detention, trial, probation and diversion.

CONDITIONAL RELEASE SYSTEMS FOR CHILDREN IN FIVE COUNTRIES AND IN TURKEY/ 2014

This report provides an overview of the youth justice practices of five EU member states (Austria, England and Wales, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain) and a comparative assessment of the situation in Turkey with particular focus on the system leading to a child’s release from detention.

Children heard before Courts as witnesses, offenders or victims are particularly vulnerable. Child-specific procedures and spaces are required for the rights of such children to be respected, and to prevent re-victimisation through repetitive hearings. This report explores, illustrates and makes recommendations for existing physical, technical and procedural standards of Child-Friendly Interview rooms in different countries.

The Juvenile Justice System Professionals Training Programme Course Book for Lawyers focuses on the national and international legislation for juvenile justice systems while referring to relevant jurisprudence and judicial decisions. The book also provides a brief insight on multi-disciplinary aspects of the system such as roles and responsibilities of social workers, inter-sectorial collaboration, communication and working with children and with their families. TRAINING BOOK FOR SOCIAL WORKERS / November 2013

The Juvenile Justice System Professionals Training Programme Course Book for Social Workers mainly focuses on the key roles and responsibilities of social workers within the system and provides case examples, templates and tools for implementation. The book also includes fundamental legal information for social workers. (Only available in Turkish).

INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON JUSTICE FOR CHILDREN / December 2013

The “International Symposium on Justice for Children” was held between 5-7 December 2012 in Ankara, Turkey, under the leadership of the Justice Academy. It covered three topics: Protection/Prevention, Judiciary procedures/Trial and Execution of decisions and sentences. In this 4 volumes publication, all the papers and the presentations of the symposium are compiled and presented. (Some of the interventions, the opening speeches and plenary sessions’ minutes are available in English).
