Communicating with Children

"Communicating with Children" combines knowledge from the fields of child development and media studies with insights from children's media production, to provide simple information on development norms at different stages of a child's life.  It shares examples of good practice, many produced at very low cost by young professionals from around the world, to show how we can adhere to human rights and child rights principles, and address the child more holistically, while also creating communication that is engaging and enjoyable.

Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Judges, Handbook for Trainers/ 2014

This book provides guidance for the trainers of “Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Judges”. The training programme has been developed based on the diversified levelled roles of the judges and the courts. The aim of the training programme is to strengthen the capacity of candidate judges to notice the best interest of the child, and to strengthen their knowledge on juvenile justice specific foreseen rules. Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Prosecutors, Handbook for Trainers/ 2014

This book provides guidance for the trainers of “Juvenile Justice System Training for Candidate Prosecutors”. The training programme has been developed by focusing on the different roles of prosecutors during prosecution and trial periods. The aim of the training programme is to strengthen the capacity of candidate prosecutors to notice the best interest of the child, and to strengthen their knowledge on juvenile justice specific foreseen rules. Juvenile Justice System Training Book for Candidate Judges and Prosecutors/ 2014

This book has been prepared as a guidebook for judges and prosecutors whom will work with children. The book covers the main regulations for children coming in contact with the justice system. Also, the book includes the main principles and approaches on inter-sectorial collaboration and protection of best interest of the child in the juvenile justice system. (Only available in Turkish).

Self-Assessment for Child Care Institutions- Implementer's Guidebook

This guidebook has been prepared for those implementing self-assessment system in Child Care Institutions. It is a significant output of the “Project for Strengthening Internal Control of Child Care Services and Developing Self-Assessment System” conducted in coordination with the Directorate General for Child Services, with technical assistance of UNICEF and the consultancy provided by Internal Inspection Division of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies.  The Training aims to increase effect and efficiency of services through successful implementation of self-assessment system in child care institutions (Only available in Turkish).

Self-Assessment Guide on Child Care Services (Child-friendly version)

This Guide is the child-friendly version of Self-Assessment Guide on Child Care Services.  The Guide has been prepared in order to guide the managers and staff during the implementation of self-assessment system in accordance with the legislations and regulations in force. The primary users of the Guide are the Institution Managers and staff that will carry out the implementation. Child-friendly version of the Guidebook supported by UNICEF has been prepared in order to help children better understand and follow-up the system they are in. 

GUIDEBOOK FOR CHILD FRIENDLY INTERVIEW ROOMS / 2014

This guidebook aims to give a brief introduction about the standards of the child-friendly interview rooms that will be constructed in various courthouses throughout Turkey, and seeks to equip various professionals with basic skills on judicial interview with children. (Only available in Turkish).

TRAINING BOOK FOR LAWYERS / November 2013

The Juvenile Justice System Professionals Training Programme Course Book for Lawyers focuses on the national and international legislation for juvenile justice systems while referring to relevant jurisprudence and judicial decisions. The book also provides a brief insight on multi-disciplinary aspects of the system such as roles and responsibilities of social workers, inter-sectorial collaboration, communication and working with children and with their families. (Only available in Turkish).

TRAINING BOOK FOR SOCIAL WORKERS / November 2013

The Juvenile Justice System Professionals Training Programme Course Book for Social Workers mainly focuses on the key roles and responsibilities of social workers within the system and provides case examples, templates and tools for implementation. The book also includes fundamental legal information for social workers. (Only available in Turkish).

CASE- BASED TRAINING BOOK / November 2013

This book has been exclusively prepared for facilitators of Juvenile Justice System Professionals Training and provides guidance on the components, methodology and implementation of case-based capacity-building. (Only available in Turkish).

COORDINATION STRATEGY DOCUMENT FOR CHILD PROTECTION SERVICES, Handbook for Executives / 2014


With an aim to strengthen the collaboration and leadership within the child protection services, this handbook was prepared for relevant executive staff under the scope of the “Coordination Training Programme for Child Protection Services”. The handbook provides a brief introduction to the new child protection model and methods of effective leadership to ensure better multi-agency coordination at the provincial level. (Only available in Turkish).

With an aim to strengthen the multi-agency and multi-professional coordination within the child protection services, this handbook was prepared for relevant field experts under the scope of the “Coordination Training Programme for Child Protection Services”. Implementation Handbook for the Convention on the Rights of the Child

The newly revised third edition of the Handbook provides a detailed reference for the implementation of law, policy and practice to promote and protect the rights of children. It brings together under each article an analysis of the Committee on the Right of the Child’s growing interpretation during its first fourteen years and examination of over 300 of its Concluding Observations following consideration of States’ reports. The Handbook also provides a concise description of the role, power and procedures, and developing activities of the Committee and its appendices include a guide to related United Nations bodies and texts of key instruments.
